Elbow Doctor

Dedicated to serving the orthopedic needs of Columbus, North Vernon, Seymour, Greensburg, and the surrounding areas since 1976, Southern Indiana Orthopedics offers exceptional care for elbow needs from our specialty-trained elbow specialists so you can get stronger.

Elbow pain and its limitations make it challenging to play sports, enjoy fun with your family, or complete daily activities. Many elbow injuries, like tennis elbow, can affect anyone and have a number of possible causes and treatments depending on your unique anatomy and needs. With the right orthopedic care, however, you can enjoy full relief from your elbow pain. The first step is seeking a diagnosis from a specialist, like a sports medicine specialist or an elbow doctor.

Elbow doctors are orthopedic surgeons who have specialized knowledge of the muscles, bones, tendons, and other soft tissues that make up the elbow, shoulder, and forearm. These surgeons treat patients for a wide range of conditions. Some have sports-related injuries or injuries caused by accidents. Others have elbow conditions brought about by age or overuse.

Some of the most common causes of elbow impairment include:

  • Arthritis
  • Biceps, triceps, and shoulder injuries
  • Bursitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Cubital tunnel syndrome
  • Damaged ligaments
  • Damaged or compressed nerve(s)
  • Damaged tendons
  • Damage to the ulnar collateral ligament
  • Elbow instability
  • Fractures
  • Golfer's elbow, or medial epicondylitis
  • Sprains
  • Stress to the forearm muscles
  • Tendonitis (tendinitis)
  • Tendon ruptures
  • Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis

Advanced Elbow Care in Columbus, North Vernon, Seymour & Greensburg

When you make an appointment with one of our elbow doctors or sports medicine providers, your doctor will want to take a look at your elbow as well as your forearm, wrist, and shoulder. Your doctor may also order X-rays or an MRI scan using our state-of-the-art, on-site imaging.

Once our elbow specialists diagnose your condition, the next step will be discussing your potential treatments options. We always strive to provide a total recovery without the need for elbow surgery. Sometimes, simple elbow conditions can be treated at home or with physical therapy. We also offer ultrasound-guided injections and bracing and splinting to forgo surgery or to be used as part of a recovery plan after surgery. Other nonsurgical treatments may include the use of medication.

For serious conditions, however, surgery may be required. If elbow surgery or another surgical procedure is your best treatment option, your surgeon will walk you through the specifics. Our surgeons specialize in a number of surgical techniques and methods in shoulder, wrist, and elbow surgery, including total shoulder replacement and other forms of shoulder surgery (which can address shoulder pain that radiates to the elbow). In addition to shoulder replacement, our elbow surgeons offer elbow arthroscopy, arthritis surgery, cubital tunnel release surgery, and ulnar nerve transposition of the elbow.

Patients often wonder when it's necessary to see an orthopedic physician about their elbow pain. While a little elbow pain may be nothing to worry about, if it isn't properly cared for, the underlying issue can get worse. Whatever your elbow care needs, our specialty-trained elbow and upper extremity doctors will treat your unique issue with the highest level of expertise.
