Dr. Sylvester Youlo received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, and then went on to earn his medical degree at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. After medical school, Dr. Youlo completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dr. Youlo chose to undergo additional specialty training after his residency and completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. He specializes in arthroscopic repair and reconstruction of ACL, PCL, meniscus, cartilage, labrum, rotator cuff, joint replacement, and fracture care.
Growing up in Liberia, West Africa, Dr. Youlo greatly desired to become a doctor from a young age so that he could help others. He believes that the best patient outcomes are achieved when he and the patient are able to work together to find the best treatment plan.
When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Youlo enjoys chess, checkers, writing, watching sports, cooking, and spending time with his family.
In addition to offering traditional hip replacements, Dr. Youlo is certified to perform anterior hip replacement surgery for patients who meet specific criteria. Given the precision necessary to perform this surgery, Dr. Youlo has completed extensive training in the use of a specialized anterior hip surgical table and anterior surgical technique. An innovative, less invasive procedure, the anterior approach minimizes both pain and recovery time for patients.
